Sorry - i have been really busy but i know lots of you have been curious about how it all went. thanks for all the great advice. here is a quick wrap up.
Overall it went well. We got interrupted a couple of times and had to delay it so that was rough! She mostly had questions about periods. I can’t believe I got so cheesey but I went into the whole cocoon, caterpillar, butterfly explanation and how she was transforming just like that (they are currently doing this project at school.) I explained from a biology perspective and it freaked her out the thought of eggs inside her – she said she thought she heard something “crack” earlier. UGH! I kept trying to get her to ask questions but she kept saying, no just tell me. I asked if she had questions about sex. She said, just tell me about it. Again, not really proud of myself but I said it wasn’t bad and it is not just kissing and touching (like she thought). I told her that it is complicated even for grown ups. So I used the analogy of our taxes. I grabbed a book and started saying, here is our gross income, here is our net income and here are some deductions. Brooke said, “ I don’t need to know about taxes.” Exactly I told her but some day you will and some day you will need to know about sex but today is not that day. You can ask me anything you want and I will answer you honestly. She did say a lot of people talk about “doing it” but she is pretty sure that meant kissing. Also, she informed me that French Kissing means you go to France and kiss. I did set her straight on that and she was totally grossed out! Yay mom!!
She also wants to read the book Are you there God It's Me Margaret? which i am going to buy for her plus the American Girl book Shell recommended (her therapist recommended the same book).
