UGH!!!!! A couple of years ago Jay and I survived a major ice storm in Kansas. We lost power and had some damage to our house. We had no kids at the time and actually ALMOST enjoyed the quiet time together. So when the Crazy weathermen here (they WAYYYYY over react to everything) predicted a major ice storm, we really didn't fret. Let me just say an ice storm without kids is a LOT different than an ice storm with kids. I was actually looking forward to a snowday home with my kids! ONE.
We started out ok. We were losing lots of trees but through the ice itself, we kept power. Monday morning, we woke up, looked outside and it wasn't good. There were tree branches on my car and a tree hanging over the neighbors car. Everyone went outside, jammies and all and started chipping away at the ice trying to get in to move the cars. I am not being dramatic here but as soon as we moved both cars, 2 trees fell. We heard a loud explosion and lost power. We were without power for 4 days! F-O-U-R! The first day was fun. Jay stayed home with all of us basically out of necessity. The streets all around us were blocked with downed trees. Seriously, we were trapped. We made the most of it the first day - Jay used the gas stove to make tomato soup and grilled cheese. We read stories and all snuggle up for a nap. The next day Jay went to work and me and the girls stayed home. A strange ice thunderstorm moved in and the girls and the dog freaked out. The house was dar and cold and it was thundering outside and trees and limbs kept falling. Jay called his parents and the had power so we drove down there and spent a couple of days. How nice it is to have family close again. Jay worked 12 hours days the rest of the week trying to make up some time and Kate and Brooke and I went a little crazy not being out of the house and being so much out of our routine! We made it back Thursday morning - we finally got power back - woohoo! Unforunately, our cable, phone and internet were all lying on the ground in the backyard but today, oh glorious day, we have rejoined the 21st century! CABLE! TV! PHONE! INTERNET! WOOHOO!!!!! It feels so good! So sorry for my absence but I am back baby!
