Well we have finally started telling people that we are adopting. I am finding it odd that I can say without hestitation to a casual friend,"oh guess what - we are adopting a baby." But when it comes to telling my closest friends I have known for years, I am finding it really, really difficult. I am so afraid of hearing negativity that I find myself not wanting to tell those closest to us. I have already had some pretty unusual questions - some expected some not. There is some great information about "positive and negative" adoption wording which is fine for me but i guess i can't expect others to use it. We have had a couple of people ask if we get to name the baby (duh - yes, it is our baby - they even reissue a birth certificate with our names and the baby's name.) The most common thing is the money. I hesitate when i mention that we are looking into fundraising and I have already gotten the "well if you can't afford to adopt, how can you afford to raise a child." AUGH! That makes me want to scream! I honestly want to ask if they had to write a $20,000 check when they brought home their child, could they have done it?? My guess is no. Who CAN write a $20,000 check? Luckily, half of ours is pay as we go and so far, we are doing just fine. so far.

Anyway, we haven't told 2 very important members of our family (although they probably wouldn't even listen.) Our furbabies. Freddie, my cat and Goobie our dog. Freddie has been with us since we were married - he sleeps with me every night. Actually, he sleeps on my head. Yep! It is crazy but i think his purring helps lull me to sleep. Here is a pic that J took.
And Jay and Goobie like to nap on the futon together. Here is a pic I took:
They are so spoiled and i love it. Our local humane society offers classes for expectant parents and their pets to help them adjust to all the changes that will be coming. When we get a little closer, might be something for us to check into! In the meantime, if you see Goobie or Freddie, don't mention anything. :)
Today is a happy day!! It is time to plant our annuals!! I just love this day. My house goes from drab wintertime to happy spring! We went yesterday and bought lots of plants at Johnson's annual fill-a-flat sale! Unfortunately, they were out of their 4.5" geraniums that were on sale which is what I use in our backyard pots so for now, just the front yard gets to be happy spring!
I can't wait to get started. J is at work right now (ugh!) so I had better start cleaning up the house so we can spend the rest of the day outside. I need to start in the bathroom - the drain in the sink is a little slow - looks like we have hair in the sink again!!

hey, you should send that last picture to catsinsinks.com - they have, uh, pictures of cats... in sinks.

That's funny about people asking if you get to name the baby. Well, not funny, I guess... but weird. You must have some pretty dumb friends. just kidding! Anyway, I'm very excited for you about all of it!
