Friday night was so much fun - just what I needed. I left work a little bit early (guess that was ok since i haven't taken a lunch in month!). I went home, took a shower, did my nails and got all dressed up.
Jay too! Don't we make a cute couple??!
Of course I had to take that photo myself. I am getting better at it.
Our dinner was at the Hyatt in Wichita. There was a reception before hand and Jay and I couldn't help but notice we were the youngest ones there by ATEAST 50 years! We did see one couple that looked about our age. I convinced Jay to go and stand by them and try and walk in with them - maybe we could sit by them. Yes, we are that desperate for new friends! Pathetic, but it worked. We ended up at a table with the young couple - a little bit older but still young couple and a woman who I had met before - she is a regularEagle advertiser + her 2 friends oh and Henry! Henry was our invisible friend. Lucky for us, the wait staff treated Henry very well. Maybe better than the rest of us. Henry got all 5 courses and lots of wine refills. Lucky for us!
The food itself was a little disappointing. The duck quesadillas were pretty greasy. The salad was beautiful but not very tastey - the white asparagus was not cooked at all and had no flavor - it needed some dressing somewhere on it - like a nice fruity or citrus vinagrette. Here is a picture of it (yes I pulled out my camera at a $100pp dinner and took a picture of my salad. Get over it.)
There was some great wines to be had - all of them from Oregon. Their Cabernet was by far the table favorite. We also agreed that the pairings weren't what they could have been. By the end of the meal we had each consumed more than a bottle of wine (or so they said) and had all become fast friends. For dessert, they served Grand Marnier Creme Brulee that was without a doubt the best dessert I have ever had. I ate it so slowly and thoroughly enjoyed every last bite.
Mmmmmmmm.
Dinner had ended and we were all still talking. Finally, I noticed that every other table was completely empty.
Meanwhile, we were still yacking away - one of the guests even provided us with her own form of entertainment.
After the show, we decided it was time to leave! :) Our new "young" friends invited us to join them in Old Town at Mort's for Martini's and Cigars. We didn't get home until close to 2am - what a great night!
Saturday at the grand tasting was a little more than I could handle. I would get a glass of wine, take a drink and pour it out. I did manage to drink 2 glasses of really good champagne before deciding to call it a day. Everyone was exhausted so while the guys napped, I cooked my "famous" chicken quesadilla - so yummy! We definitely over indulged this weekend - I had better end this now so I can go run around the block a couple of times! Have a great week everybody!
