Way to go Jay!

I am so proud of my husband! He surprised me by running in his first marathon this morning. Here is a pic I grabbed as he sped by!

hehehe - I am pretty funny - and so is he! Actually what happened is they ran the Memorial Marathon which is a run for remembering the horrible domestic terrorist attack on Oklahoma when the Murrah Federal Building was bombed. It is also the first full marathon my brother ever ran! Yay Aaron. And yes, I do have a brother.

Jay and I woke up this morning at about 5:45 to the blaring sound of the Rocky Theme. Not the worst way to wake up but not the best either - especially at 5:45am! We looked out the window, saw a croud of people and several - porta-potties! We just have one bathroom but I am not ready to resort to that. Now maybe if they had a vanity....Anyway, we knew the marathon was coming right by us, i guess we didn't realize the crowd it would draw plus we were a water and gatorade stop.
We left Kate sleeping and grabbed a baby monitor - afterall, it was right in front of our house! We got down in time to see the lead runner followed by a group of 2 men and then more and more and more.

And there was this hottie. I have no idea who he is but mommy likes!

I went upstairs just worried about Kate but Jay decided to stay and volunteer. He through on some surgical gloves and started passing out PowerAde. Apparently, he kept calling it Gatorade and was getting corrected, often! Some guy runs buy and grabs a cup thinking it was water, he threw it all over himself! He yelled at Jay, "UGH I thought you said this was water - it's Gatorade." My always quick-tongue husband replied, "actually, it's Powerade."

The rest of the day we spent working outside. We have this nice flowerbed that been overtaken by weeds and vines. I took on the challenge of cleaning it out. Also got osme plants for the front steps. It looks so good - now I just have to figure out what I am going to plant in the flowerbed! On a sidenote, I am already so sore, I can barely walk! Oops!

*****ETA - Jay just got off the phone with his dad. Apparently his mom and dad and grandmother were coming back from the family reunion in TX this weekend - we couldn't go because of soccer. Anyway, I guess they were at a gas station and a car started backing out and almost hit Jay's grandmother. Jay's mother pushed her out of the way and probably saved her life - they ended up getting hit by the car but not as bad as it could have been. They are both in the ER in Lawton. Jay's mom is ok but they are afraid his grandmother might have re-broken her hip! I will let you know more when I know more.

Sidebar question for Aaron or others if you know the answer...I have never been to or seen a marathon or obviously ran in one so is it normal for their to be porta-potties along the route? I guess that didn't bother me,it was the fact that the runners stopped and waited in line to use them. At one point there were probably 15 runners lined up waiting - hello....isn't this a "race"? Your competition just stopped to use the facilities - keep running man! Keep Running! Maybe bladder training should be part of marathon training - maybe it already is.

yes, porta potties are normal... I don't think the people that are actually in the running for the win usually stop, but for a long race, sometimes you just gotta go!

Sorry about Jay's parents and grandma... I hope they're o.k.!
